Abstract
The status of forest insect pests in Nigeria is discussed from the inception of the former Federal Department of Forest Research (now Forest Research Institute of Nigeria. lbadan) to the present time. The major insect pests of the economic tree species in Nigeria are discussed and successful attempts at controlling some of them are highlited. The major factors, such as shortage of personnel and inability to make maximum use of the resources available, militating against pest control are discussed with a note on the prospects for future campaigns against forest insect pests.
