Abstract
This article reviews the medical literature on the use of video recording in the general practitioner's consulting room and a psychiatric hospital. Issues are raised relating to article content, methodology, theory, application and ethics. Results indicate that video recording need not affect the consultation and a broad acceptance of video is observed from patients' reactions. When the range of variables is increased in the research design, the attitudes towards video recording are modified.
