Abstract

This review of the literature on A Classification System for Libraries of Judaica by Elazar provides a brief history of the System along with a summary of its basic functionality. The themes explored in this review are the purpose for which the Elazar System was developed, specifically how standard classification and cataloging schemes were problematic for libraries of Judaica, and the challenges of balancing the needs of specific user groups with the need for standards that can be understood and applied in ways that allow for the broadest possible access.
