Abstract
The surface transport industries are under enormous pressure because, the world leaders have emphasized the requirement to restrict global warming to 1.5° Celsius in United Nations Climate summit. The transportation sector contributes mainly to climate change and global warming. The international legislative bodies of surface transportation industries are also insisting on zero-carbon and zero-waste fuel emission. To comply with those strict emission goals, Hydrogen fuel which is a clean energy resource should be widely accepted as an alternative energy source. Considering Hydrogen fuels in combustion engines, the main motive of research is to review several scholarly works associated to the utilisation of hydrogen fuel in internal combustion engines as an environmentally-friendly and sustainable energy source. In addition, the review discovers potential of hydrogen as a future energy source with smart emission control technology. Hydrogen blend fuels have more promise in terms of emission reduction and compliance with regulatory requirements.
