Abstract
We report the first record of the parasitic isopod genus Parapenaeonella Shiino, 1949 from China. Two species are reported infesting penaeid shrimps; one is new to science, and another is a new record from China. The new species differs from Parapenaeonella distincta Shiino, 1949 in its widely open brood pouch, small biramous pleopods, simple barbula, and its male with midventral tubercle on the first pleomere. Information on the high morphological variability of males of P. distincta Shiino, 1949 and its new synonym, Parapenaeonella lamellata Bourdon, 1979, is presented.http://www.zoobank.org/urn:lsid:zoobank.org:pub:B3E0879E-EF5E-42EA-B062-3A6361DA1B5D
