Abstract

The operating conditions of a ferrous chloride-calcium chloride electrolyte for electroforming iron foil and of an alloy solution for electroforming iron-nickel alloy foil are discussed with particular reference to their effect on the mechanical, electrical and magnetic properties of the foils. An analysis of the effect of irregularities on the cathode substrate on the surface roughness and mechanical properties of iron foil is also considered. The theoretical and computational prediction of the growth of electrodeposited iron over a scratch on the surface of the cathode is discussed in relation to experimental results. A discussion of the effects of heat treatments on electroformed iron and iron-nickel alloy foil is also included.
