Abstract
Resistance spot welding (RSW) is a modern welding technology that enables the rapid and effective joining of materials across various industry sectors. It finds wide application in the automotive and aerospace sectors due to its ability to provide strong and durable welds. The quality and performance of such weldments are, however, affected by factors such as welding current, time, pressure, and material properties. Understanding and optimizing the resistance spot welding process is, therefore, crucial for achieving desired metallurgical and mechanical properties. The review offers valuable insights for improving manufacturing process, enhancing weld quality, and driving innovation in resistance spot welding. This work deals with the challenges and advancements specific to resistance spot welding on dissimilar materials. Also, the interrelationship between welding parameters, metallurgical transformations, and mechanical behavior in dissimilar material joints has been presented. Optimization of the parameters, material selection and its effects on microstructural properties have also been discussed.
