Abstract

Among the most important recent developments in geodesy must be counted; flare triangulation; modulated-light, electronic, and light-interference methods of distance measurement; gravimeters that function in the air, on the surface of the earth, and beneath the surface of the sea; and observation of earth satellites. This article gives a brief account of these developments and their actual and probable impact on the science of geodesy.
