Abstract

Recently, polar navigation has become a hot topic in the field of navigation, and it is of great significance for the realization of global navigation. Unfortunately, the common coordinate systems for navigation systems (such as local-level-and-north-pointing coordinate system) do not work in polar region. In this paper, we analyze the main problems encountered in polar navigation for the common coordinate system, and then review two types of coordinate systems, the transversal coordinate system and grid coordinate system, which are frequently used in polar navigation. At last, we give the brief introduction of their application in celestial navigation, satellite navigation and inertial navigation systems.
