A review of lubricating mechanisms from the perspective of tribo-electrophysics and tribo-electrochemistry

Abstract

Understanding mechanisms of tribo-electrophysics and tribo-electrochemistry is one of the most important fundamental research due to the application of developing scientific technology. The present paper provides a review regarding tribo-electrical mechanisms under four lubrication regimes, including dry friction, boundary lubrication, thin film lubrication and fluid film lubrication. Moreover, a brief summary and some important aspects in the field of tribo-electrophysics and tribo-electrochemistry were proposed, on which further intensive investigations are still mandatory. It is hoped to provide beneficial guidance to inspire the development of tribological theories and further engineering applications.
