Abstract
Though single-sex education has been used for many decades in private schools, it is a recent phenomenon within public schools, due largely to additional single-sex regulations in the Title IX amendment revised on November 2006. This report explores recent studies of single-sex classrooms and finds that, though scores remained relatively unchanged within gender-segregated classrooms, girls showed a greater advantage to single-sex schooling than boys. However, both sexes showed notable improvement in both behavior and self-esteem, among other socio-emotional factors. Finally, my research indicated that further research and development of gender-specific curriculum is necessary to continue the growth and improvement of single-sex education. Enough data is collected here to substantiate the benefits of single-sex classrooms.
