Abstract

This paper discusses the body of theory common to the three major categories of crisis, describes the progressive stages of individual response, and sets forth the general principles of crisis intervention. Several examples of economies effected by comprehensive, multidisciplinary intervention services are described, and it is suggested that the maximal and optimal effects would make it worthwhile to actually seek out the easily-identified populations at risk, such as college freshmen, new mothers and the bereaved.
