Abstract
Objective To summarize the of diagnostic and therapeutic experiences of pediatric testicular tumors.Methods The clinical data of 48 cases of testicular tumors were analyzed from January 2004 to December 2012 at a single institution.Results The etiologies were yolk sac tumor (n=24),matural teratoma (n= 10),immature teratoma (n =3),malignant tumor (n =2),testicular leukemia (n=1),testicular embryonal carcinoma (n = 1 ),interstitial cell tumor (n = 1 ),sclerosing support cell tumor (n=1),fibrous hamartoma (n=1),testicular dermoid cyst (n=3),simple cyst (n=1)and inflammatory granuloma (n= 1 ).The onset age was from 4 months to 7 years.And 32 of them were under 3 years old.All cases underwent radical orchiectomy or organ sparing surgery, including retroperitoneal lymph node dissection.After 1 8-week chemotherapy for 4 cases of yolk sac tumor,combined chemotherapy was performed subsequently.Among 24 cases of yolk sac tumor,22 cases survived while another 2 died.And 1 5 cases of testicular teratoma and the remaining testicular tumors all survived.Conclusions Ultrasound is an effective diagnostic modality of testicular tumors. And the measurement of alpha fetal protein (AFP)may aid the differential diagnosis.Computed tomography is beneficial for judging the presence of metastases.Rapid intraoperative frozen section may effectively retain testicles.And postoperative multi-drug combination chemotherapy improves the survival rate of malignant testicular tumors.
