Abstract

SummaryOf 900 horses undergoing colic surgery, 38 (4.2%) had obstruction of the small colon. The important anatomical features of the small colon, the types of obstruction encountered and the clinical signs are described together with the laparotomy findings and surgical techniques used to overcome the obstructions. Of the 38 horses, 27 (71.0%) recovered and were discharged from the hospital.
