Abstract
Significant population and economic growth, caused increasing of energy demand. Depletion of fossil fuel moreover coupled by climate change issue that caused by increasing carbon emission, become necessity to continuously encourage achieving renewable energy mix in energy primer. Large potentials of hydro renewable energy source and small utilization of it, micro-hydro and pico-hydro power plant are suitable to develop especially in country side. The research gap in the current turbine application chart is a challenge for Gravitational Water Vortex Power Plant (GWVPP) strong existence in pico-hydro power, besides conventional turbine design has been developed into it. However, development in vortex flow and basin geometry design has a robust design for the past 10 years of research. Researches have been conducted in few countries that proofed GWVPP has less capital investment and low operational and maintenance cost, however the parameter of the GWVPP still need further development since the power output efficiency still low. Since basin opening and outlet diameter are the main parameters to define basin geometry, inlet channel need to do further research. The research will improve the recent gaps; therefore, vortex turbine could be developed accordingly that would result immediate improvements for renewable energy growth in Indonesia through GWVPP.
