Abstract

A pregnant 30-year-old gravida 5, para 2 (2 cesarean sections and 2 medical abortions) woman presented with a serum beta-human chorionic gonadotropin (β-hCG) level of 11 141 IU/L on the 47th day after her last menstrual period. Transvaginal sonography showed an empty uterus, and a curettage and laparoscopic exploration were nondiagnostic. Subsequently, her plasma β-hCG level rose to 17 351 IU/L.
