Abstract
This essay offers the very first contextualized, historical overview of biblical hermeneutics in the Caribbean. It shows how the peoples of the Caribbean can engage in radical and subversive forms of biblical interpretation in order to challenge the neo-liberal, globalized world of White hegemony. The essay outlines the core components of a contextual biblical hermeneutic of and for the Caribbean. The essay demonstrates the importance of repeated attention being given to the socio-cultural and economic "world" of the reader as a means of enabling the Bible to become an important dialogue partner in the struggle for full humanity and justice for the Caribbean.
