Abstract

To reveal the habit of reading in Turkey, many researches have been carried out from time to time with different population and sample, and various studies are continuing. The development of technology and the fact that social media environments are easily accessible via mobile phones have led to a further decrease in the time allocated to reading. It is argued that the habit of reading is decreasing day by day among young people and especially university students. In this study, the attitudes of university students in the Gölhisar district of Burdur towards their reading habits and the factors affecting these habits were examined. The universe of the research is university students and the sample is university students studying in Gölhisar district. Questionnaire method was used as data collection technique. The findings were evaluated according to gender and education unit. As a result of the research, the rate of students who reading is higher than the students who do not. Also, female students read more than male students proportionally. On the other hand, students at bachelor's degree read more than associate degree students. Novel type is preferred the most among the books being read, and the majority of students who do not read complains high book prices and spend time on mobile phones.
