Abstract

The purpose of this research is to emphasize the differences in the names of faculty teaching in the field of art in the Higher Education Institutions of Turkey Republic and to propose new terminology and a simple concept for the confusion occurred because of these differences. In this context; Emphasizing different expressions in the names of Art Faculties and based on this, the focal point of the study is the need to gather the "Art" Faculties, which have many different names such as the "Fine Arts", "Fine Arts and Design", "Fine Arts, Design and Architecture", "Visual Arts", "Art and Design", "Art, Design and Architecture", "Arts and Social Sciences" Faculties, under a single name as in other Faculties. In addition, it is revealed the problems arising from the inclusion of the suffixes "Fine", "Design", "Fine and Design" in the names of the Art Faculties, where no an excess of words in the names of the faculties other than the Faculties of Art. The research is a descriptive research based on scanning model. The research data consists of the Faculties providing active education in the field of arts in the 2019-2020 academic year. As a result of the research, in the 2019-2020 academic year were determined 119 universities where exist Faculty of Arts. Art Faculties in 93 universities have used the term "Fine" alongside the term "Art"; 26 universities did not use the term "Fine", instead they used the term "Design, Architecture, Social Sciences" together with the term "Art". Furthermore, in the survey determined that among the universities of Turkey Republic there is no faculty just by name "Art Faculty". This finding has been discussed in the context of the name differences seen in Art Faculties. Key Words: Fine Arts Faculties, Art and Design Faculties, Higher Education, Art Education, Terminolog
