Abstract

Aleksandr Pavlovich Chekhov (1855-1913), although a Russian writer, graduated from the Department of Physics and Mathematics at Moscow University. While still a student, he began to publish pieces in humor magazines and small newspapers and helped his brother Anton to publish his first literary endeavors. Throughout his entire life, Aleksandr Pavlovich never ceased writing and publishing. His works include essays, tales, polemical articles, news stories, and popular science brochures. He also served as editor of the journals Slepets [The Blindman], Pozharnyi [The Fireman], and Vestnik Rossiiskogo obshchestva pokrovitel'stva zhivotnym [The Herald of the Russian Society for the Protection of Animals].
