Abstract
It has been an unexpected pleasure to have my article come under the searching scrutiny of a scholar who has worked thoroughly over the same ground. I have read Dr Pearson's comments, and also his carefully researched book, Henry Lawson Among Maoris, with great interest. I too must acknowledge correction at a few points, but I shall have to take issue with Dr Pearson in the area of our more serious differenceâLawson's time at Mangamaunu. Although I find the research underlying Dr Pearson's book impressively thorough, his interpretation docs not always satisfy me.
