Abstract
We discuss the ordinary transition of the semi-infinite q-state Potts model within the Migdal-Kadanoff renormalisation group scheme. Approximate surface free energies are calculated in dimension D = 2. In addition, we consider the effect of symmetry breaking surface fields. Our scheme predicts that only one such field is relevant.
