Abstract

Wind power has become one of the most popular renewable resources around the world. As the capacity of installed wind power increases, there is a constant need to minimise downtime and maximise productivity. Therefore, condition monitoring and fault diagnosis are significant for wind turbine operation and maintenance. This paper analyses typical faults in wind turbines and proposes a diagnostic process, and details the design and development of a remote online condition monitoring and intelligent diagnostic system based on the process. The system framework and the main functionality of the system are described in a real-world application of the system in some Chinese wind farms. Evaluation of the system shows that this system has achieved better reliability of wind turbines and hence saved maintenance cost to a certain extent.
