Abstract

Let p : E → B be a stratification with layer F. The fundamental base group π1 (B) acts on the homologies of the layer. The resulting representation A* of the fundamental base group in the group of automorphisms A* (γ): Hk(F, Z) → Hk(F, Z), γ ∈ π1(B), of k-dimensional homologies of the layer is appropriately called a k-dimensional monodromy group (the standard monodromy group is obtained for k=0).
