Abstract

A relativistic Thomas-Fermi-Dirac-Weizsäcker theory is applied to Fe and Au atoms under various compressions. The calculated values of electron density, energy, and pressure are compared with nonrelativistic values, and it is shown that even for lighter atoms the relativistic effects become significant when the compression is very high.
