Abstract

By mobilizing the theoretical-methodological framework of the French Discourse Analysis, mainly Dominique Maingueneau’s work, specially his book Discurso Literario (2012), I have been able to sustain, in my thesis, two hypotheses: private letters of renowned authors from the literary field work as a discourse genre and they also work as a paratopic shifter. From the achieved results, I have proposed the presentation and consolidation, as a post-doctoral research, of the private letters of renowned authors (whilst a generic scene) from the constituents discourses as a possible fourth paratopic shifter, adding them to Dominique Maingueneau’s proposed paratopic shifter group: the ethos, the scenography and the interlanguage position. Therefore, the central hypotheses of my post-doctoral project is that the private letters of renowned author’s (whilst a generic scene and a production of these author’s associated space) of the constituents discourses (the literary, the philosophical, the scientific and the religious) work as a paratopic shifter. In this perspective, I present in this article one of the proposed and achieved analysis in my post-doctoral project, in which I analyse the private letters of Seneca, a renowned author of the philosophical field.
