Abstract
This paper indicates where, in the view of the authors, the main uncertainties lie in assessing the safety of nuclear plant subject to irradiation embrittlement. The estimation and evaluation of adequate safety margins are also discussed. The paper advocates the establishment of agreed ground rules for prescribing safe operating rules and estimating safety margins.
