Abstract

In this paper, a metallic grating structure with varying depth is presented for beam-wave interaction. The DC electron beam flies above the structure and backward spoof surface plasmon mode is excited. When the electromagnetic power flow reaches the left-hand of grating structure, it is trapped down and reflected to propagate forwardly due to rainbow trapped storage of terahertz wave. With energy reflecting and transmitting at both ends of this structure, a regenerate feedback is realized and a THz pulse is amplified repeatedly. This system achieved the maximum output power over 1.5 W after four times of reflections at 1 THz with a 3 kV/20mA electron beam.
