Abstract

Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi was extracted by ethanol and distilled water as solvent, the antimicrobial activities of the extracted active components (flavonoids) were tested on Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Bacillus subtilis, yeast and Aspergillus niger. The results showed that the best extraction method was extracted twice by 60% ethanol at 80°C, firstly with solid to liquid ratio 1:10 for 1 h, and then extracted with solid to liquid ratio 1:8 for 1 h. The recovery of the extracts reached 8.72% after acid precipitation. The extracts were dried at 60°C to ambient pressure. The antibacterial activities of different concentrations of extracts of Scutellaria were tested on Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis and Enterobacter aerogenes, the minimum inhibitory concentrations were 10 mg/mL, 10 mg/mL and 10 mg/mL.
