Abstract

The lumen equivalent (lumen/W of emission) of red phosphors for color picture tubes is measured and compared with a theoretical limit. A new red phosphor, , is shown to have a higher lumen equivalent than any of the red phosphors used so far for color picture tubes. From the observed values of lumen equivalents and energy efficiencies of various red phosphors, the possiblity of increasing the brightness level of red phosphor is discussed.
