Abstract
A 62-year-old woman was seen on the dermatology consult service for evaluation of a painful, reoccurring, blistering rash near the right waistline. The patient described a history of repeated outbreaks (>15 episodes) over the course of a year prompting her to seek medical attention on multiple occasions in the emergency department and her primary care's office where she was diagnosed with recurrent herpes zoster infection. She was prescribed antiviral drugs but stated that they were of no benefit to her symptoms.
