Abstract

A large-sized petrel of the genus Pterodroma has been observed by one of the authors (Y. Tanaka) on 16th August 1975, at 36°42′N-142°14′E on the North Western Pacific about 150km east of Central Honshu. Two photographs were taken by him from the R. V. Hakuho Maru (3200 gross tons) of Ocean Research Institute, University of Tokyo during her cruise in the Northern Pacific from 21th June to 18th August. This bird was identifiable as Kermadec Petrel Pterodroma neglecta. In reporting this record we should like to express our sincere thanks to Dr. F. C. Kinsky of National Museum of New Zealand for his kind help in the identification of species and for his valuable suggestions, and to all the crew members of the R. V. Hakuho Maru for their helpful co-operations.
