Abstract

In the present study, a real-time control strategy has been proposed for the plug-in hybrid electric vehicle based on the maximization of the powertrain efficiency. The proposed method formulates a cost function representing the expression of the power-train's overall efficiency in different driving mode. Then the engine and ISG motor's output torque is determined in order to maximize the efficiency of the powertrain. The performance of the proposed method is analyzed and demonstrated on the model of the plug-in hybrid electric vehicle established in MATLAB/Simulink for different driving cycle conditions and the results have been compared with the logic threshold control strategy. The simulation results show that the proposed method provides a competitive performance with a better energy consumption economy compared to the logic threshold control strategy for different drive cycle conditions.
