Abstract

When requirements for real time data transmission systems include error detection and block retransmittal capabilities, then the existence of some form of buffer storage unit between the uncontrolled data source and the transmitting terminal is implied. This paper is the result of an effort to determine an optimal storage capacity for a real time input transmission system to a time-shared digital computer upon the basis of known transmission link error statistics and transmission rates.
