Abstract

A thick Ru(0001) film was epitaxially grown by vapor deposition on a Mo(110) surface. Using this clean Ru(0001) film as a substrate, the room temperature absorption and growth of up to 5 monolayers of Cu are studied by AES, LEED and work function change measurements. The results show two-dimensional layer-by-layer growth up to 5 monolayers. The CO chemisorption properties of the Cu/Ru(0001) bilayer at room temperature are also studied as a function of Cu coverage. The CO saturation coverage decreases linearly with Cu coverage, i.e. no ensemble effect is seen.
