Abstract

A rational decision-making model with conjunctive and compensatory rules has been proposed and demonstrated for use in experimental mechanics. The model contains a logical sequence of steps that leads a decision-maker through the process of selection. The result is a rank order of available techniques based on a score that gives an indication of the probability of success for the use each technique. The effectiveness of this type of model has already been demonstrated in the design11 and marketing13 industries. There is potential for using an artificial intelligence tool such as a neural network to implement the decision making process.
