Abstract

Explosive loads caused by various factors seriously threaten the security of reinforced concrete (RC) structures. To explore the dynamic damage and failure patterns of RC structures under explosive loads, new rate-dependent peridynamic (PD) models for concrete and reinforcement are proposed. For concrete, the behavior of progressive damage and the compressive deformation limit are also taken into account. The ideal microplastic PD model is adopted for reinforcement. Then, this paper investigated the failure process of RC slabs under close-in explosive loads and obtained crack propagation paths and central bending deflections consistent with the test results. The results manifest the established PD model can correctly calculate the damage process of RC structures under explosive conditions.
