Abstract

Echinococcosis is a frequently encountered parasitic disease and a serious health issue occurring in some geographical regions of the world. Cardiac involvement is rare and is seen in only 0.5–2% of cases. In this paper, we present a 67-year-old female patient with a stage 4 calcified hydatid cyst of 8 cm in diameter located in the right atrium which is a very rare site for cardiac involvement. It was firstly detected in echocardiography and was referred to cardiac MRI examination for further evaluation which directed the actual diagnosis. The patient was operated with cardiopulmonary bypass with no complications and oral albendazole therapy was started.
