Abstract

Question: A 57-year-old woman was found to have an elongated submucosal mass on upper esophagus by gastroscopy done because of discomfort while swallowing. The tumor seems to extend from the esophageal introitus to the upper esophagus with a smooth surface and yellowish color measuring 1.0 × 4.5-cm (Figure A). Endoscopic ultrasound examination revealed a hyperechoic mass protruding into the esophageal cavity with an obscure origin (Figure B). A computed tomography scan showed a well-defined and low-density mass in the cervical esophagus (white arrow, computed tomography value –79.9 Hounsfield units) (Figure C, D).
