Abstract

An adult layer chicken was brought for necropsy examination with the history of sudden death. Upon opening the abdominal cavity, there was a shell-less egg in the abdominal cavity, the oviduct was highly congested and the mucosa of the anterior portion of oviduct was seen prolapsed through a tear in the oviductal wall. Microscopically, the mucosal epithelium revealed severe degenerative to necrotic changes with severe congestion. Based on the gross findings, the case was diagnosed as oviduct rupture with prolapse.
