Abstract
Quantitative analysis of short-chain fatty acids in serum or plasma can be performed within three hours by this method that utilizes gas-liquid chromatography. The method eliminates the need for extraction procedures and is more rapid and less technically involved than a non-extraction method previously described. Patients with at least one disorder, isovaleric acidemia, have been identified and studied by this method.
