Abstract

A nomographic method for the fast estimation of the magnitude of the grain-size effect in non-dispersive X-ray fluorescence analysis is given. The suggested method permits estimation of the grain-size effect for any element to be determined in the sample of any chemical composition. The density of fluorescent and non-fluorescent grains, their packing as well as the geometry of measurements have been taken into account. The method permits fast assessment of measurement conditions for a given analytical problem so that the grain-size effect will be as small as possible. For this assessment, no measurements are necessary.
