Abstract
ABSTRACT A new rapid analysis method for estimating the seismic collapse capacity of moment-resisting frames is proposed. Numerous generic structures with different structural properties are used to model the moment-resisting frames. A database of structural responses for moment-resisting frames is constructed by nonlinear static and incremental dynamic analysis methods. Using the database, a closed-form equation for predicting the median collapse capacity of moment-resisting frames is then developed. The proposed method is assessed by comparing its collapse capacity predictions on 57 different moment-resisting frames with those obtained from incremental dynamic analyses. The results evidently show that the proposed methodology is reliable.
