Abstract

This study ranks the management schools in Great China (including mainland, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Macau) based on their academic publications in the SSCI management and business journals from 2000 to 2010. Following Ritzberger’s (2008) and Yu and Gao’s (2010) ranking method, we develop six indexes to rank institutions from several aspects including both quantity and quality of publication. By doing so, we can have a clear viewpoint about which institutions achieve high level of academic performance in management and business research. This study also finds that: 1) there is still a large gap in research ranks between business schools in mainland China and in Hong Kong; 2) some institutions perform well in quantity rankings but not so good in quality rankings; 3) the developments of general management and operation discipline are much more mature than that of finance and accounting discipline in Great China; 4) most outstanding institutions cooperate with developed countries in a moderate level.
