Abstract

A generator is described which is capable of producing pulses occuring randomly in time. The mean pulse rate may be set between 10 c/s and 100 kc/s. In addition, the mean rate can be made to increase exponentially with time, and a range of time-constants between 30 ms and 10 s is provided. The output of the generator at a constant mean rate may be used for testing scalers, ratemeters, time-to-pulse-height convertors and other instruments which have to operate with randomly timed input pulses and may show defects with such pulses which are not apparent with a uniform input. The output with an excursion in the mean rate is particularly suitable for testing reactor period trip units and similar equipment.
