Abstract

A filter model consisting of a random distribution of parallel fibers is proposed to account for nonuniform fiber spacings in a real filter. The average pressure drop across this filter is determined based upon a random cell model of hydrodynamics. The results are favorably compared with existing experimental data. The computation is also extended to the slip flow regime where the Knudsen number is not negligible.
