Abstract

The resolution of high-performance wideband radar is accurate enough to distinguish each strong scattering center of the target, which provides more information about the electromagnetic characteristics of the target and improves the accuracy of target recognition. However, the increased resolution will reduce the coherence of the range unit within the target range and increase the fluctuation of the target. These characteristics will deteriorate the target detection performance. In this paper, a flexible radar target multi-scale transformation method is proposed. Enlightened by the multi-rate filter bank technology, a special combination of analysis filter bank and synthesis filter bank is used to achieve any scale transformation of the original radar signal. This method can transform the radar target signal to the most suitable scale for detection according to the different early warning tasks. After the detection link, the original target signal can be accurately reconstructed without affecting the performance of the radar system. The proposed method is able to improve the performance of modern radar systems by balancing the conflict of resolution requirements between detection and other links of radar system.
