Abstract

The aim of this research was to articulate chemical knowledge using the electroflocculationpractic to raise awareness about the importance of environmental preservation in water treatment. This work was realized in public school at Coari city, Amazon state, Brazil, in a class of the first year of high school. Mixed methodology (combining quantitative and qualitative approaches) has become. The project was divided into 5 stages: initial questionnaire application; lecture classes; debate on the use of electroflocculation for water decontamination; practical lessons and application of final questionnaire. The results showed that the students had not yet studied in an interdisciplinary way the application of theoretical contents in the context of environmental preservation and that the adopted methodology contributed to alert to environmental issues. It is concluded that working the theme of water treatment by electroflocculation in a theoretical-practical approach collaborated to learning of students about the application of chemistry for the benefit of the environment.
