Abstract

COMMUNITY BANK nurse Caroline Petrie came under media scrutiny last month for asking a patient during a home visit if she wanted her to pray for her. After being suspended while North Somerset Primary Care Trust investigated concerns about her behaviour, Ms Petrie, a Christian, has been allowed to return to work. Ms Petrie said: 'I am looking forward to returning to work and doing what I love. I am pleased that I do not have to separate my faith from my work.' We asked members of the Nursing Management Expert Panel what they thought. Should offers of prayer warrant disciplinary action? What would they say to nurses in similar situations? What would they advise generally about the boundary between private faith and public service?
