Abstract

Dimedone reacted with benzofuraxane in the presence of Et 3N. The expected products were quinoxaline derivatives but an unexpected compound was obtained in low yield. The structural identification of the product was done spectrally and a mechanism for its formation was proposed by the aid of AM1 type semiempirical calculations.
